Bookshelf Quilt Class
In this class you will learn a fun technique for constructing a bookshelf quilt. This can be done with fabric scraps or as a Memory Quilt using clothing. This quilt is a great gift for that book lover in your life. Quilt Dimensions: 68"x79"
Additional Notes: Students should arrive at class with at least 40 book spine fabrics already cut ranging in length from 9” to 11 ½” (Cut 10 @ 3” wide, Cut 10 @ 2.5” wide, Cut 10 @ 2” wide, and Cut 10 @ 1.5” wide).
Also, have 2 strips of your neutral fabric cut in each width. Leave in width of fabric length. So, 2 strips at 3” x 42”, 2 strips at 2.5” x 42”, 2 strips at 2”x42”, and 2 strips at 1.5”.
SCQ can print up to an 8x10 on fabric now. If you would like to have photos printed on fabric you will need to email the photos to Southern Charm at least one week prior to the class so that they can print them in time. This will be an additional fee payable to Southern Charm. $10 for each 8x10. Photo must be high resolution.

Rotary Cutter
Small cutting mat at least 12inches long would be helpful by your station
Long Ruler (at least 12inches long)
Neutral thread
Sewing machine
Mini iron would be helpful, but not necessary
4 Yards P44F Fusible Stabilizer (ONLY if using clothing or ties for a Memory quilt)
Bring your lunch
Fabric Requirements for full quilt: 68 in x 79 in
Fabric for book spines: Approximately 2 yards of fabric scraps (You will need 120 scraps of fabric ranging in length from 9in to 11in and the width should be varied between 1in to 3in.
Background fabric for books: 1/2 yard (scraps or yardage) Neutral (white or cream) I used all different scraps of white tone on tone fabrics.
Border Background fabric: 1 full yard Neutral (white or cream)
Sashing (Color of your bookshelf): 2 1/2 yard of a dark fabric (black or brown)
Binding: 1/2 yard fabric
Backing: 2 1/2 yard of 108 in OR 5 yards 42 in width

| Instructor Bio: | I have been a quilter/instructor for 13 years. The first memory quilt I made was from my husband and my son's jeans. I am blessed to love and be loved by a decorated EOD Veteran. In order to celebrate and commemorate his service I made him a memory quilt out of his military uniforms. Along the way, I started making Memory Quilts for family members who had lost a loved one. Knowing that they would wrap the quilt around themselves and feel connected to that person again sparked a passion in me. Powerful memories come back when we see a familiar fabric.
