"EVENING CLASS" - Quilting 101 with Lisa Craven

Always wanted to quilt but didn't know where to start? Maybe you're a new quilter and want to learn good quilting habits? This is a class that will teach all of the basics of quilting, from selecting fabrics, to cutting precisely, to piecing and assembling that perfect quilt. This is a beginner level class, but it is helpful to be somewhat familiar with your sewing machine.


  • Working sewing machine (don't forget power cord and pedal!)
  • Thread- 50 wt. Aurifil neutral (2310) or gray (2600)
  • Bobbins
  • Seam ripper
  • Scissors
  • Glass Head Pins
  • 6 1/2 " x 6 1/2 " square
  • Quilting Ruler
  • Smaller quilting ruler (2 1/2" x 6 1/2" or similar recommended)
  • Fabric marker (Frixion or similar)
  • Start Quilting, 3rd Edition by Alex Anderson (Book, available at SCQ)
  • Fabrics: Students will spend part of the first class session picking out and paying for their quilt fabrics at SCQ

    Recommended for home use: Self-healing cutting mat, 18" x 24" min., preferably 24" x 36" 6 1/2" x12" long quilting ruler or larger (6 1/2" x 24", 8 1/2" x 24")

Instructor Bio: 256.583.5332 An educator for over 30 years, and a quilter for over 20, Lisa Craven wants to share her love of quilting with anyone who wants to join the quilting world. She started her quilting journey in Alaska in 2001 and has continued sewing in Germany, Japan, and Alabama. She and her husband Bill live in Huntsville with their two corgis, Monty and Murphy.
