Quilt As You Go

In the class you will be making a simple table topper. We will use the controlled quilting method to do some of the quilting and then join our blocks with the 1 to 1 method of QAYG. This method can be used to join any quilt. There is some prep work that needs to be done before the class. Remember, this is a class about learning how to join your quilt, one block at a time, not how to make the quilt block itself.

I used to struggle with putting a quilt top under that small throat space on my domestic sewing machine to quilt it. It was no fun at all! I then discovered these big machines people had that would do the quilting for me, so I sent my quilts to a longarmer for several years. But I had this desire to finish my own quilts! So I searched the internet for quilt as you go techniques. There's a LOT out there and QAYG has been around for a very long time. In my search I found Pattern Poole and Pauline Quilter's World, both in Australia. Pattern Poole is a mother/daughter team that teach QAYG techniques. I took their master class and learned five different joining techniques for QAYG. I never looked back. Their methods are what I use to complete all of my quilts. Pauline Rogers also has some QAYG techniques, but this is where I learned controlled quilting. This was a game-changer for me! I have never mastered free motion quilting and this method opened a whole new world to me of how to quilt my blocks before joining them. If you want to learn how to finish your quilts on a domestic machine, or are just curious about the whole process, join us for this class! |
