Recycled Denim Quilt
Denim quilts are great for a variety of uses. They are a weighted quilt for comfort. Keep it in your car to protect your vehicle cargo space and it can double as a picnic quilt.
Students will learn the following:
• How to cut jeans from French seams
• How to remove pockets to reveal the cool under pocket denim
• Tricks for sewing with denim
• Quilt math to make this quilt any size you want
Students should come to class with the following: At least 1 pair of jeans. Do not cut up before class.
Supplies:
- Rotary cutter with a sharp blade
- White pencil to mark on black
- 6.5" square ruler
- Scissors that can cut through denim
- Pins
- Sewing machine and power cords
- Mini iron would be helpful, but not necessary
- Seam Ripper - Necessary for this pattern
I will provide the denim to learn the technique on the 4 blocks we will complete in class.
Sam’s pattern is included in the class fee. Students will receive the pattern on the day of class.

| Instructor Bio: | I have been a quilter/instructor since 2009. The first memory quilt I made was from my husband and my son's jeans. I am blessed to love and be loved by a decorated EOD Veteran. In order to celebrate and commemorate his service I made him a memory quilt out of his military uniforms. Along the way, I started making Memory Quilts for family members who had lost a loved one. Knowing that they would wrap the quilt around themselves and feel connected to that person again sparked a passion in me. Powerful memories come back when we see a familiar fabric. It makes the memories tangible! |
