The Penny Quilt
If you have taken one of my classes, you have directions on how to find color value. If you need assistance with choosing your fabrics, please let me know.
Students should come to class with the following:
- From Background Fabric: Cut 6 strips at 1 1/2 x WOF (width of fabric)
- Sub cut the following:
- 6 strips at 1 1/2" x 12 1/2"
- 6 strips at 1 1/2" x 9 1/2"
- 6 strips at 1 1/2" x 8 1/2"
- 6 strips at 1 1/2" x 5 1/2"
- 6 strips at 1 1/2" x 4 1/2"
- The pattern gives fabric requirements for baby, lap, twin, queen, or king
Fabric requirements for Lap quilt:
- 24 fat eighths or 12 fat quarters
- Background 1 3/4 yd
- Backing: 4 yds
- Binding: 1/2 yd
Supplies:
- "The Penny Quilt" Pattern by Erica Jackman of Kitchen Table Quilting
- Rotary cutter with sharp blade
- Long Ruler (6 1/2" x 24")
- 6 1/2" Square Ruler
- Small scissors
- Pins
- Best Press Fabric Starch
- Sewing Machine in good working order
- Mini iron, not necessary but helpful

| Instructor Bio: | I have been a quilter/instructor since 2009. The first memory quilt I made was from my husband and my son's jeans. I am blessed to love and be loved by a decorated EOD Veteran. In order to celebrate and commemorate his service I made him a memory quilt out of his military uniforms. Along the way, I started making Memory Quilts for family members who had lost a loved one. Knowing that they would wrap the quilt around themselves and feel connected to that person again sparked a passion in me. Powerful memories come back when we see a familiar fabric. It makes the memories tangible! |
